Osteoporosis in middle-aged and older adults is a big problem in technologically advanced regions, one that needs to be addressed before populations reach the critical years. Fortifying bone density while young, can do much to allay osteoporosis. Low volume exercise options, like running are shown to increase bone density, while heavy,ongoing, endurance training can have the opposite effect. Walking, cycling and jumping appear to have minimal effect on bone density. However, short, intense training sessions make use of strength and endurance techniques. These to have the best effect for securing and maintaining bone mass levels.
