For those that are working out it can be hard to know when you are doing it right. If you are working out you want to make sure that you are getting back on the effort that you put in. There are some big workout mistakes that you can avoid to get the most of your workout. Make sure you warm up first, stretch, use weights and cardio, use power, and make sure that your workout is not to easy.
Key Takeaways:
- Stretching is important to prevent soreness and injury, because blood flow to muscles and tendons decreases with age.
- Focusing too heavily on cardio neglects building muscle mass with weight training.
- Exercise benefits are not maximized if intensity is not raised over time to match physical improvement.
“For a proper warmup, kick off each workout with five to 10 minutes of cardio exercise to raise your heart rate, like jogging on a treadmill at moderate speed and incline.”

I started out with the 5 to 10 minute cardio warm up, but as I gained my muscle mass back, I gained some fat. So I cut about 23 pounds with lots of cardio and HIIT, then regained the muscle without the fat. Now my workouts are more intense. Don’t buy this thing, where you fear cardio. Just be smart, and don’t sacrifice weight training for a mostly cardio workout. I do cardio 2x a week, and 20 minutes of HIIT 2 or 3x a week. I’m 56, and have RSD plus bad neck and back, and tendinitis.
