Swimming, aerobics, racquet sports slash risk of death

A study conducted by researchers in the UK found that certain types of sports played over time can significantly reduce the risk of death. Dr. Pekka Oja of the UKK Institute for Health Promotion Research studied over 80,000 participants from Scotland and England over a 9 year period. They surveyed the group at the beginning of the study to rate activity levels, and to see what sports and types of physical activity they participated in. After nine years, there were 8790 deaths among the participants with the group participating in sports having a reduced rate of death at about 28%. Sports that reduced death risks even more were racket sports, swimming, and aerobics.
