Using a standing desk at work — preferably one that’s adjustable — can reduce fatigue, increase your productivity and, more importantly, improve your health. A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine showed that sitting an average of 9 or 10 hours a day, as most American office workers do, contributes to an increased risk of diabetes and heart attack, and ups your mortality risk by 50 percent. Adding a desk that allows you to stand part of that time is a good way to offset the risks of being sedentary.
