Sport makes middle aged people smarter, new study shows

Research suggest that starting a sport in mid-life could increase mental function. When the overweight participants in the study lost weight from the exercise, they showed improved mental ability. After 4 months of exercise, they showed improvement in memory, attention span, speed and ability to switch between concepts of thought. It is believed that physical activity improved blood flow through the body which helps the brain function better. Activity also increases insulin sensitivity which raises the body’s effective use of sugar.
