Queenslander? Male? Over 50? You’re a melanoma risk

As part of Men’s Health Week, newly released data shows that men over 50 living in Queensland are at very high risk of being diagnosed with and dying from melanoma. Recommendations to avoid melanoma include basic sun safety measures such as sunscreen, protective clothing, and shade. Another key piece is early detection of suspicious lesions. If there are new spots or spots that have changed shape, men should visit a doctor to have it checked out. If caught early, melanoma is one of the most treatable cancers. However, the death rate is rising each year, so it’s important to be vigilant.
