Physical activity guidelines: How much exercise do you need?

All age groups need to have exercise as part of their weekly routine. Exercise should include age appropriate varied activities including moderate to low intensity exercise such as jogging, high intensity exercise such as participating in a spin class, strength training such as climbing or doing push-ups, and flexibility exercises such as yoga or stretching. Healthy adults should aim for at least 2.5 hours a week doing moderate intensity activity, or equivalent. Children should aim for at least 1 hour a day of moderate intensity activity, or equivalent.
