Sleep deprivation in humans may have more adverse side effects than previously thought. Researchers studied subjects reaction to varying expressions of emotions in others. Some computer generated morphing of emotion, others plain singular emotions. All shown to the subjects after being sleep deprived. The vast majority failed to properly read complex emotions, only properly gauging obvious, simple expressions and missing complex ones. The same subjects were shown emotions after a good nights sleep and performed far better. Leading researchers to conclude sleep deprivation impairs the ability to judge emotion, and in turn, may cause issues in relationships.
