How to NOT Suck at Working Out

How to NOT Suck at Working Out

Have a game plan. Try to improve every week. Get enough sleep and have a good diet. Don’t get distracted in the gym. With free weights, your body does a natural range of motion and therefore free weights are better than machiens. Have good posture and form. Be wary of advice from so-called experts and don’t do something if it hurts you. Don’t pick up too much weight, it’s all about how you use your muscles. Don’t do isolation exercises, leave those to bodybuilders and try to use as many muscles as possible. Try to do the compound lifts and do versions of exercises that use the whole body in place of isolating one muscle. Always do a 5-10 minute warmup and stretch afterwards. If you work out alot, don’t erase your gains with unhealthy sugary food. Be courteous in the gym and use your time effectively.

Key Takeaways:

  • It is important, when working out that you have a game plan to maximize time and effort.
  • Make sure to be consistent in your habits or else you could suffer wasted time and plateaus.
  • Be able to understand that free weights and machines are not equal and to get a great workout you should incorporate both.

“Although I’m not the biggest guy in the world, I practice safe routines when lifting, I go for balance and functional movement over superficial but weak practices, I have a level head, strong convictions, and I do my best to stay up to date on the latest books, studies, journals, and information when it comes to getting strong and staying in shape.”
