How a driven cop on a fitness mission helped build a stronger, fitter unit

How a driven cop on a fitness mission helped build a stronger, fitter unit

Officer Rob Capezio learned at the police academy that physical fitness is necessary to be a police officer. When he moved to a different force outside of the city, it had a small gym with minimal equipment. Capezio made it his mission to transform the space into a well-equipped gym that almost 90% of his co-workers use. He partnered with the Chief and supplement company Performance Inspired, to expand the weight area. Capezio and another officer spearhead a fitness program where participants earn rewards such as time off. Ten years later, Rob is still dedicated to the department’s fitness efforts.

Key Takeaways:

  • Today, Cranberry’s onetime minimal gym is a full-fledged, well-equipped training space where close to 90% of Capezio’s fellow officers bust big iron
  • Capezio—and the entire department—hope the program will set the standard for other police departments throughout the country.
  • Hey, look, the administration and the department were able to work together and come to a great resolution. If we can do it, you can

“Our inspiration was to help others live a healthy, more active lifestyle while also giving back to communities.”
