High levels of exercise linked to nine years of less aging (at the cellular level)

Despite our best efforts, nobody has been able to stop aging, but now, researchers at Brigham Young University have found a way to slow down aging at the cellular level. The more active we are, the less biological aging affects our bodies. They performed a study that found that people who consistently perform high levels of physical activity have longer telomeres in their cells (our “biological clock”. Shorter telomeres = more aging). In order to be considered highly active, one must perform 30-40 minutes of high intensity activity, such as running or jogging, five days a week. High levels of physical activity can lead up to a nine year biological aging advantage, as it helps to preserve our telomeres, possibly by decreasing inflammation and oxidative stress.
