The amount of sleep we get each day as we get older has been suggested as catalysts for certain diseases. As we age if we are not getting enough deep sleep we are subjecting ourselves to developing or speeding up dementia. The less deep sleep you get the more likely you are to develop dementia and as you start to develop dementia, it interrupts your sleep. This is known as a double edge sword where they both are the cause and effect of the other.
