Research has found an enzyme linked to weight gain and physical decline in aging animals. Mice on a high fat diet had this enzyme neutralized and did not gain as much weight as those with the enzyme left uninhibited. Dr. Jay Chung, the author of the research, believes his findings support a genetic component to weight gain as well as lifestyle habits. The enzyme, DNA-PK, becomes more active in older animals. An active and healthy lifestyle is still important for health.
