A key enzyme that become more active as animals age could be a factor in weight gain apart from lifestyle choices. A scientific experiment performed on mice with a high fat diet in who this enzyme was inhibited did not gain weight at the same rate as those with whom the enzyme was fully active. The enzyme, DNA-PK, becomes more active with age and might explain weight gain beyond lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise.
