PFAS, also known as PFCs, are synthetic chemicals that do not occur naturally in the environment. There are many different types of PFAS such as perfluoro carboxylic acids and perfluorosulfonate. PFAS may be used to keep food from sticking to food wrappers. Around 30% of the packaging tested contained fluorinated chemicals, which have been shown to seep into food and then into our bodies.
