Exercise is beneficial to adults over age 50, not just for their body but also for their mind. Past research has demonstrated that exercising can help decrease the risk of dementia. New research, including a review of over 35 studies, added to the scientific evidence for the positive outcomes of exercise by showing that it also improves mental functioning. Aerobic exercise such as running or walking swiftly helps to improve the way in which a person thinks. Resistance work, such as weightlifting, assists in increasing a person’s ability to remember information and make clear decisions.
