Soreness after a workout doesn’t necessarily mean it was a good workout. It could mean damaged muscles. Exercise variables such as intensity, weight, or volume could cause soreness. Also, if it has been more than a week since the last workout, soreness could result. Having soreness after workouts can mean a lack of hydration, sleep or nutrition, or just working out too often. Making workouts successful can be better measured by running a certain distance or using a certain amount of weight and comparing that to your last workout.
