Dr. Chung and his team wrote that the enzyme DNA-PK (DNA-dependent protein kinase) has implications for metabolism in adults. As people age, DNA-PK levels rise significantly and cause the body to convert nutrients to fat. However, in rats studied, those who participated in exercise were on a restricted diet head lower levels of DNA-PK. The findings of this study could be used to treat metabolic symptoms in older patients, but tests have not yet been performed on human subjects.
