Dancing Can Reverse the Signs of Aging in the Brain

Dancing Can Reverse the Signs of Aging in the Brain

New study shows that dancing and exercise can improve brain function and brain aging in elderly subjects. A double blind test was done with two study groups of elderly people. One group was placed on an exercise program and the other was placed on a dance oriented program. While both programs showed an improvement in brain health, the dance program yielded higher measurable results in the improvement of brain age. The dancing group also were the only group to notice a difference in brain behavior.

Key Takeaways:

  • Exercise can reduce or prevent a decline in mental functioning as a result of age.
  • Dancing, specifically, both encouraged the growth of the hippocampus region of the brain and reduced the age-related brain decline.
  • Dancing regularly can improve your brain’s functioning over time and prevent a decline in mental ability with age.

“A new study reveals dancing may have the most profound effect on cognitive health.”
