At the TEDx event, instructor Stacey Schuerman mentions how overwhelming modern life is to our sympathetic nervous system. She encourages the audience to consider breathing as an exercise to lower blood pressure and reduce stress. She walks them through an exercise to take a couple of moments and give themselves permission to settle into a peaceful moment of rest and visualize themselves relaxing the various muscle systems. They are also encouraged to let go of external influences and listen to one’s mind as they let go of physical, emotional and mental pressures.
