The number of adults over 60 is projected to double in the next three decades. A mostly Mediterranean diet, eating at least 3 smaller meals, can help. Exercising 40 minutes 3-4 times per week can also improve health, as can walking and even housework. Depression and mental health are the main problems of aging, with dementia and cognitive defects being in the forefront. Alcohol should be used in moderation, if at all. Sleep disorders due to pain, nocturia and insomnia can be problematic. Exercise the brain with reading, crosswords, and other mind-stimulating activities. An active social life with close relationships can mean 70% less dementia in older age.
